Program Overview

Fine Arts is one of the most profound and dynamic fields of creative expression, deeply rooted in culture yet constantly evolving with new ideas and technologies. The BS Fine Arts program at UMT is designed to nurture imagination, experimentation, and innovation. Students are encouraged to explore diverse art forms, ranging from drawing, painting, sculpture, and printmaking to digital and new media practices.

Throughout their course of study, students actively participate in studio sessions, critiques, and collaborative projects where they challenge conventions, experiment with materials, and translate concepts into powerful visual languages. The program emphasizes the importance of cultural identity, historical understanding, and contemporary relevance, enabling students to create artworks that are not only personal but also socially and globally meaningful.

Program Objectives

The program is designed to provide participants with the creative freedom, technical expertise, and cultural awareness required to flourish as practicing artists and creative thinkers. Over 4 years, students immerse themselves in a vibrant environment that values exploration, cross-disciplinary practices, and critical reflection.

Key objectives of the program include:

  • Cultivate the ability to conceptualize and express original ideas through drawing, painting, sculpture, and emerging media
  • Encourage experimentation with diverse materials, processes, and technologies to expand creative boundaries
  • Develop the ability to analyze and interpret art within cultural, historical, and contemporary contexts
  • Build professional capacity to present artworks through exhibitions, portfolios, and curatorial practices
  • Foster an understanding of sustainability and responsible material use in art-making
  • Encourage the development of a personal artistic identity and voice that reflects cultural engagement and individuality

Career Paths

Graduates of the BS Fine Arts program can pursue diverse creative and cultural careers, including:

  • Professional Artist (Painter, Sculptor, Printmaker, Multimedia Artist)
  • Art Educator (School, College, or University level, subject to further qualifications)
  • Curator, Museum/Gallery Professional, or Cultural Heritage Specialist
  • Art Critic, Writer, or Researcher in Visual Arts and Culture
  • Illustrator, Concept Artist, or Creative Consultant
  • Community-based Artist or Socially Engaged Practitioner
  • Art Entrepreneur (running studios, exhibitions, commissions, or cultural ventures)

Admission Criteria

  • FA/FSc with minimum 45% marks or Equivalence Certificate
  • No 3rd division in matric or equivalent program (Equivalence Certificate Required)
  • Equivalence certificate from IBCC in case of O-Level and A-Level
  • UMT Drawing Test
  • UMT Written Test
