Program Overview

The PhD Textile is a full time 4-year program which includes course work comprising of 18 credit hours. Students will have to take three core courses including a course on research methodology, and select three more courses according to their specialization. During the first two years, students will complete the required coursework including 9 credit hours of core subjects (3 courses) and additional courses of 9 credit hours (3 courses) from elective subjects to enhance the students’ research. The passing criterion for PhD level subjects is minimum 70%. The maximum number of two subjects is allowed to study in a semester which is equivalent to 6 credit hours.

 

In case of deficiency coursework, the participant will have to complete deficiency coursework (of 600 level subjects) before taking PhD courses (of 700 levels or above).

 

Students will then be required to pass a comprehensive (qualifying) examination in the field of textile. The structure of the examination will be in accordance with the prevailing guidelines of UMT. The students who pass the qualifying examination will be required to conduct research in the specified area and to submit a written thesis of their research to complete their PhD. The PhD candidates will have to defend their research work in front of a panel of experts in order to complete their degree requirements.

 

Program Objectives

The core objective of the program is to enable the PhD candidates in conducting research for inventing and innovating solutions for ever-increasing problems of textile industry, as well as invent newer products and methods for the future.

 

Career Paths

The graduates of PhD Textile program will be able to join textile industry, research institutions and government and non-governmental organizations as technical experts and advisors, and research scientists. They can also join the academia in faculty positions.

 

Admission Criteria

Eighteen years education in Textile Engineering or an allied line, with minimum CGPA 3.00 out of 4.00 or equivalent in semester system or 60% in annual system, along with NTS-GAT (Subject) with minimum 60% marks or equivalent with a valid result at the time of admission.
