On the third day of TEXPO 2024, a significant seminar titled “Smart Moves: Transforming SMEs into Green Powerhouses” was held, highlighting the growing emphasis on sustainability within the textile sector. The seminar featured presentations by leading international and local experts focused on the transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) into environmentally responsible entities in light of the growing international compliance requirements.
Ms. Yulia Bazhenova, Head of Project Textiles II at GIZ, delivered a presentation on the “Promotion of Sustainability in the Textile and Garment Sector of Pakistan,” discussing key initiatives and support for fostering sustainable practices in the industry. Mr. Cem Alton, President of the International Apparel Foundation, shared his insights on “Greening the Apparel Industry,” shedding light on global trends and actionable strategies to reduce the environmental footprint of textile manufacturing.
Following the presentations, a panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Omar Hameed, Economic Minister in Brussels. The panel featured prominent figures including Mr. Amir Chottani, CEO of Chottani Industries and Chairman of PRGMEA South Zone, alongside Mr. Dr. Tayyab Naveed, Head of Textile Department at UMT and international sustainability experts. They engaged in a dynamic discussion on the incorporation of green practices in Pakistan’s textile sector, emphasizing collaboration between industry and academia to drive innovation and sustainable growth.
The event attracted over 150 participants from trade bodies, the textile business community, and academia, underscoring the importance of sustainable transformation in the industry. The seminar concluded with the presentation of shields by Ms. Rafia Syed, Director General Punjab TDAP to the distinguished participants in recognition of their contributions.
