Program Overview

The School of Design and Textile is one of the forward-looking schools of the University of Management and Technology. Its graduates in fashion design, textile design, graphic design and interior design are high in demand by the fashion and allied industries of Pakistan with 100% job placement record. Now, on the demand of country’s textile and clothing industry, it has launched a new 4-year degree program of BS Textiles (BSTEX) with effect from Fall-2020 semester. Although Textile and Clothing industry is the largest manufacturing set-up in Pakistan, but it is not performing to its potential.

A number of factors such as non-availability of clean and fine cotton from local ginning industry, limited use of man-made fibers by spinning mills, low levels of efficiency and productivity in downstream industries, shortcomings in supply chain, narrow export base, low value added items, lower rank in global competitive index etc. The newly launched BS Textiles program will help all the sub-sectors of Pakistan’s Textile and Clothing industry to get its due share in the world trade by improving its overall performance.

In the first two years of the program, the students will learn about natural and manufactured textile fibers, basics of spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing, printing and garment manufacturing. In the senior classes, they will study about technical textiles and specialize in one of the sub-sectors of textile industry such as yarn manufacturing, fabric manufacturing, textile coloration and garment manufacturing.

Career Prospects:

The fresh graduates of BSTEX program can opt for the following career paths:

  • Employment in the department of production, quality assurance, production planning and control and industrial engineering of an apparel manufacturing unit
  • Employment in the merchandising or marketing department of an apparel manufacturing unit
  • Employment in the national and international garment supply chains or buying houses
  • Researcher in national and international textile and garment research and development organizations
  • Compliance expert in certification bodies and audit firms
  • Trainer in textile and garment training institutes
  • Entrepreneur in textile and garment fields

Program Duration

Duration: 4 Years

Admission Criteria

At least 50% marks in FSc/ICS/DAE/BSc examination with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry/Computer Science subjects or equivalent foreign qualifications certified by IBCC.
